UPDATE: 20th May
Following the Prime Ministers’ most recent COVID-19 instructions, we feel that it is not necessary to change our ways of working at this time. We are continuing to deliver veterinary care to your pets, horses, and livestock, with all the necessary procedures in place to ensure the safety of our staff and clients, whilst complying with the government’s guidelines. Details can be found here.
We will continue to offer 24/7 emergency care to all our patients, telephone and video consultations, and necessary care during the pandemic. Please consider whether your trip to the surgery is essential. Use our video or telephone consult service instead.
Our branch surgeries in Charlbury, Deddington, and Moreton in Marsh are open only for necessary pre-booked appointments. Dates and times of availability can be found here. Whilst we may not be immediately available 100% of the time at these locations, we will ALWAYS be here to help if your pet needs veterinary care.

The Small Animal Department is operating mainly out of our Hook Norton Hospital, with specific small animal vaccine clinics at Hook Norton and our branch surgeries, for those pets that need them most. These will be assessed on a case by case basis. For vaccine clinic dates, click here. The branch surgeries remain closed outside of vaccine clinic times.
We would like to assure you that the Farm and Equine Departments are here for your horses and livestock if needed, we are well-stocked with wormers and vaccines.

UPDATED 24th March: Coronavirus (COVID-19)
As events continue to unfold surrounding Coronavirus it continues to affect every aspect of our lives. As always, our team is working tirelessly to continue to be able to deliver excellent veterinary care and keep you, our clients, as informed as possible. This is only possible through great teamwork, the loyalty of our clients, and we thank you for all the support you have shown us.
Following the Prime Minister’s instructions to minimise all non-essential travel and contact, we have put the following measures in place. These measures will be reviewed on 13th April, in line with the Prime Ministers’ advice. We are amending our procedures to ensure we continue to fulfill our ethical obligation to our patients and their owners while complying with the government’s instructions.
We will be minimising our staff within our Hook Norton Hospital and providing a skeleton emergency only service. Our Charlbury, Deddington & Moreton-in-Marsh branch surgeries will be closed until further notice. Whilst we may not be immediately available in these locations, we will ALWAYS be here to help if your animals need veterinary care.
Please contact our Hook Norton Hospital if your pet/horse/farm animals need veterinary care.
Please consider whether your trip to the surgery is essential. Use our video consult service instead, bookings for this are available here.
VACCINATIONS
We will continue to provide puppy vaccines. However, we will not be able to offer booster vaccines to animals over 1 year old or kitten primary vaccinations. Booster vaccines have a 2 month grace period, so delaying by 3 weeks will not affect your pet’s protection. We ask that all kittens are kept in the house to stop them from picking up any diseases.
ROUTINE OPERATIONS
We will not be able to perform routine surgeries such as neutering and dental cleaning. We will still be able to perform surgery to address specific health emergencies and to address more chronic health problems.
MEDICATIONS
Where possible we will post medication to you. We will deal with repeat medication requests by phone or video consult only.
We will be operating with a skeleton staff who will be extremely busy with life-threatening problems. Please consider whether you can delay worming and de-fleaing your pets by a month.
If your pet generally does not have a problem with fleas or worms and does not have a condition that requires special attention to parasite control then we ask you to delay requesting more parasite medication to lower the administrative requirements on the surgery.
ROUTINE HEALTH CARE
We will not be able to offer our routine Nurse Clinics, this includes: annual 6-month health check, dental checks, senior health checks, monthly puppy checks, puppy 6-month-old health checks, & weight clinics.
These are very trying times for us all. The measures we are being asked to put in place are for the health of our parents and grandparents – the people who cared and gave everything for us. It’s now time to return that care to them. Everyone at HNVG wishes both you and your animals good health. Go well, and most importantly stay well.
HNVG.

Update: 19th March.
We would like to ask your co-operation in helping to reduce the spread of the virus. If you are experiencing any symptoms associated with COVID-19, we ask you to please refrain from coming into the Surgery for 2 weeks.

HNVG Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Due to the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, we have put certain measures in place to protect both staff and clients, and help HNVG continue to provide excellent veterinary care to your animals. These will be implemented from Monday 16th March 2020.
Each branch will be allocated teams of Small Animal, Equine & Farm Vets, nurses and support staff. The aim is to limit cross-contamination and enable us to continue delivery veterinary care should one or more of our sites be affected by COVID-19. Should you wish to see a specific vet, you may have to travel to a branch you may not normally visit. Our website will be updated with specific details next week, and in the meantime please call any of our branches for more information. To minimise the number of people congregating together we would ask that as few people as possible bring your pet to the vets. If you would prefer to wait in your car please inform us (by phone if preferred), this is perfectly acceptable and we can accommodate this. We would like to reassure all our clients that we have routine protocols in place at all branches, in accordance with current NHS & WHO guidelines, to reduce the spread of Covid-19.
HNVG Small Animal Veterinary Response to Coronavirus (COVID-19)
Should you be required to self-isolate due to COVID-19 we are able to offer the following services:
> Video consultations (fees will still apply)
> Arrangements will be made for medication & prescription requirements if you are unable to get it collected from the Surgery
> If necessary, and no staff members are at risk, home visits can be arranged (normal fees will apply for this service)
If you are in self-isolation and need veterinary care, please contact us to see how we can help you.

Here are 9 things you can do to help prevent COVID-19:

2. Clean surfaces regularly with disinfectant – for example, kitchen benches and work desks;
3. Educate yourself about COVID-19. Make sure your information comes from reliable sources;
4. Avoid traveling if you have a fever or cough and if you become sick while on a flight, inform the crew immediately. Once you get to your destination, make contact with a health professional and tell them about where you have been;
5. Cough or sneeze into your sleeve. If using a tissue, dispose of the tissue immediately into a closed rubbish bin, and then clean your hands;
6. Take extra precautions to avoid crowded areas if you are over 60 years old, or if you have an underlying condition;
7. If you feel unwell, stay at home and call your doctor or local health professional;
8. If you are sick, stay at home, and eat and sleep separately from your family, use different utensils and cutlery to eat; If you develop shortness of breath, call your doctor and seek care immediately;
9. It’s normal and understandable to feel anxious, especially if you live in a country that has been affected. Find out what you can do in your community. Discuss how to stay safe in your workplace, school or place of worship.
