Equine Surgery in Oxfordshire: Our Purpose-Built Equine Clinic

November 26, 2025 | by Charlie Hands | Equine

Did you know we are the only purpose-built clinic to provide equine surgery in Oxfordshire, with a full on-site operating theatre and inpatient facilities?

It’s a bold statement, but one we wholly stand by. Every day, we see the benefits that our purpose-built surgical and inpatient facilities bring to horses and ponies across Oxfordshire and the surrounding counties.

When your horse requires surgical or specialist treatment, being able to carry out the majority of procedures right here at the clinic means they don’t have to travel to an external referral hospital. This is especially important when horses are in pain, distressed, or require urgent intervention.

Expert Surgical Care at Hook Norton Equine Vets

Our modern equine clinic is equipped to deliver advanced equine surgery on site, combining specialist expertise with state-of-the-art facilities.

Specialist Equine Dental Surgery

We regularly welcome Neil Townsend and the team from The Equine Dental Clinic, who carry out a full range of specialist equine dental procedures within our clinic. This helps minimise stress and travel for horses requiring complex dental surgery.

Collaboration with Leading Equine Surgeon Dr Jessica Kidd

Our equine vets work closely with Dr Jessica Kidd, an RCVS and European Specialist in Equine Surgery, to provide a comprehensive range of elective and emergency surgeries, including:

  • Arthroscopy for injury diagnosis and treatment

  • Arthroscopy for OCD fragment removal

  • Arthroscopy for septic joint flushes

  • Tenoscopy

  • Fracture repair

  • Castration, including abdominal cryptorchid (‘rig’) surgery

  • Upper airway surgery (e.g. Hobdays, tie-backs)

  • Kissing spine surgeries (interspinous ligament desmotomy and dorsal spinous process resection)

  • Sarcoid and melanoma removal

  • Sinus surgery

  • Soft tissue surgery

  • Laser surgery

Our Equine Surgical Facilities

Our purpose-built clinic includes:

  • Dedicated equine operating theatre

With facilities for both standing sedation in our stocks and general anaesthesia in the operating theatre, we can tailor surgical decision-making to what is safest and most appropriate for each individual patient.
