X-Ray Services

We have two portable digital x-ray systems that provide high-quality images wherever you may be. In addition, our battery-powered generator allows us to take x-rays without mains power. However, please let us know when booking an x-ray appointment if you do not have mains power!

X-ray images are uploaded to a cloud-based storage system from which they can quickly be emailed to you, your farrier, referral clinicians or anywhere else they are needed.

Preparation is an important part of acquiring high-quality images. You can help us in this by ensuring that your horse is clean and dry (mud and wet hair can be seen on x-rays and can prevent accurate interpretation of the image!) and that there is a firm, level surface, preferably under cover – electrics and rain don’t mix well!

Safety Information for Clients – Equine Radiography

• Radiation can cause damage to tissues, particularly those which have high activity, such as the thyroid gland  
• Pregnant women are strongly advised to avoid radiation exposure for the safety of the baby 
• Person’s present will be restricted in number and must be over 18 years of age 
• All personnel must wear lead aprons, neck protectors and lead gloves 
• Radiography plates are held at arm’s length in a holder where possible 
• Sedation of the patient is often needed 

 It is not compulsory for you to be present while your horse is x-rayed – if you would rather not be present, please let us know so that we can provide sufficient help to carry out the imaging required
