Shockwave Therapy is used commonly in the treatment of sore shins, arthritic joints, tendonitis and suspensory ligament injuries. It is also particularly useful in back problems and sacro-iliac disease in the pelvis.
Shockwaves are very high amplitude acoustic (pressure) waves and provide a therapeutic outcome by relieving pain, increasing blood flow to the area by stimulating the formation of new blood vessels and increasing the healing in the affected area.
The course usually involves a series of treatments depending on the horse’s specific injury. Most horses will stand well for treatment but some may require sedation. Please contact the surgery for more information.
