Worming Management

To provide a complete and effective worming programme for horses and ponies it is recommended you rotate the type of wormer each year to prevent the worms building up a resistance.

It is important to:

  • Practice good pasture management (eg. rotate use of paddocks, remove droppings)
  • Isolate new horses until wormed
  • Include worm egg counts throughout the year
  • Worm with the correct wormer at the correct time of year
  • Dose for your horse’s weight correctly (remember the practice has a weighbridge you can use!)

We recommend regular worm egg counts and are happy to offer support and advice about the worming of your horse when we give you the worm egg count results.
